Ambient Jazz Ensemble Release 'Scars'
Originally an instrumental, 'Scars' was hallmarked to be worked on and developed into a song from the start.
With a multitude of different artists and musicians working on the track across the board, including the incredibly talented Donna Gardier, 'Scars' is a Classical Jazz masterpiece.
With textures ranging from Saxes and Bass Clarinet, Strings and Drums as well as beautiful vocals, 'Scars' explores that for better or worse, scars are the experiences that make us who we are.
From a quiet reflection, the song blossoms into an uplifting message that we, as human beings, fail. We are imperfect, robust, intelligent and beautiful. AJE perfectly depicts the personal thoughts and feelings that anyone may experience from time to time.
Often noted for his ability to tell stories through his music, AJE - aka Baldry - can paint a scene, similar to a film score.
His influences stem from old soul records with a cinematic approach: Marvin Gaye's Trouble Man, Marlena Shaw's California Soul, Curtis Mayfield and genre-defying Jaga Jazzist.
With a highly accomplished career in music, Baldry has played and produced for iconic labels like RCA, Geffen, Motown, Virgin and Capitol Records. He has also arranged and conducted with the likes of The BBC Concert Orchestra and The City Of Prague Philharmonic, performing at parties hosted by The Rolling Stones.
Baldry's vast experience has resulted in a more broadened approach to music.
With access to working with world-class orchestras, he has been able to create large-scale epic arrangements, which has no doubt furthered his ability for emotive, cinematic compositions.
Although Ambient Jazz Ensemble's brand of cinematic jazz lies somewhere between nu-jazz and ambient electronica, the live ensemble sound retains an experimental approach; a melting pot sits on the fringe of several musical styles. Championed and licensed by the likes of Hospital Records and Cafe Del Mar.
