An Interview with 'Aaron Fross'
Who are the band members and what do they play?
I am a solo artist, my name is Aaron Fross and I sing and write songs. I also play the the piano and use that to help me write and compose my music.
How and where did you get together?
I've been singing and writing music since I was about 8 years old.. I don't remember the exact age, but it was about as soon as I learned how to talk. Singing was, and till is, my happy place. I was in bands for most of my life, but a few years ago I decided to go solo so I could be free to explore my musical vision.
What are the band's main influences?
My music background is very diverse. My family in Lithuania has a folk band, so folk music was very present when I was growing up, that definitely left a mark. I also listened to a lot of Enya, Lisa Gerrard, Annie Lennox and Mari Boine. I like beautiful vocals, the ones that give you goosebumps and take you away to a different reality. That is what I want go give the listeners with my own music as well.
Have you played any notable gigs, festivals or other events? Likewise radio or TV appearances?
When I was younger and singing with my family's folk band we would tour all of the folk festivals in Lithuania and the Baltic region.
Since moving to London I have performed around the city on and off. Most recently I was on the talk show on National Lithuanian Radio on the 26th of April 2020 where gave an interview and played my songs.
Are there any other interesting or amusing happenings – no matter how small – that the band have been involved with that would be of interest to those who like your music?
I was collaborating with my mother recently, she plays a Lithuanian instrument called a "kantele" in English. She has a following in the folk music scene in Lithuania and she also writes songs. Recently I have been recording and arranging some of her songs with music producer Niels Bakx. At the moment these tracks are only available on youtube, but we are planing to release an album in the future.
Do you have any favourable quotes from previous reviews of the band that you'd be happy to share?
For my first release "New Gods" one reviewer called it "a James Bond track". Who would have thought... not me!
Where was the single/EP/album recorded and who was involved in its production?
Sea was recorded in the heart of London in Regent Street Studios. I was working with the Regent Street Artists at that time and it was produced by Sean Kennedy.
Amazing producer, it took us only 3 sessions to fully complete the track.
Is there a particular ethos behind the single/EP/album or any particular music styles or events that inspired it?
The song Sea is inspired by Enya's and Lisa Gerrard's sound. It's cleansing and relaxing.
