An Interview with 'Kev Howell'

Who are the band members and what do they play?

Kev Howell - songwriter & arrangement and composer- vocals / guitar / keys /effects Martin - Bass and backing Vocals Johnny - Drums and percussion

How and where did you get together?

The band have known each other for about 4 years now through open mics and various jams. They will be filling in for live performances. Hoping to get a few tracks recorded with them before xmas for a Live E.P before the album drops next year.

What are the band's main influences?

Currently Gary Clarke Jnr and Bright Eyes , The new album Down in the weeds is awesome. Also as always as always Jack White/ BRMC / The Beatles

Have you played any notable gigs, festivals or other events? Likewise radio or TV appearances?

I've supported John Power and Ben ottewell and to name a few acoustic acts.We were due to play a few festivals this year and that got canceled due to covid. Last festival i played was Home Farm festival in Somerset on the main stage solo. That was great experience! Also played eden festival. Another

Are there any other interesting or amusing happenings – no matter how small – that the band have been involved with that would be of interest to those who like your music?

I was asked to support Tony Christie at St Lukes in Glasgow when I was starting out as solo artist. That turned out to be great night, him and his blues band were outstanding! I had never done anything like that at that point but so was a wee tad nervous playing to a fully seated older audience, but they couldn't have been any nicer! I even got asked to play someones wedding after that! good night that...would never have expected it. Even the man himself enjoyed my set.

Do you have any favourable quotes from previous reviews of the band that you'd be happy to share?

The one I'm most proud of so far is for Kamikaze ! It was featured on the BRMC website and said "Keep up the good work, Kev". That for me is better than any other review i could imagine! BRMC are possibly my biggest inspiration as a musician along with the Beatles.

Where was the single/EP/album recorded and who was involved in its production?

The single was Recorded at Maybank Studios in Glasgow and produced by the legend that is Matt Harvey. We are working on the follow up to Haunting ambition which was my August, 2017 debut album.

Is there a particular ethos behind the single/EP/album or any particular music styles or events that inspired it?

One word 'Blues' The song is just Blues Rock. I love it. It was written regarding a lot going on in personal terms and also with all the shit that's been happening, politically and socially over this past year. It has been regarded as timely and i would probably agree. this song means a lot to me, i think it's one of my best so far , I really can't wait to share the stuff I have been working on recently. It's been very productive at the moment and I'm definitely feeling inspired.

Can you briefly describe what the song/each song is about? If you are releasing an album then either describe the thinking behind the project or choose a couple of lead tracks to focus on.

... "you are not alone". Communicate, don't be embarrassed or discouraged to talk to someone or ask for help. People struggle every day with anxiety and other personal issues, including myself and I, 'm not ashamed to admit it. The pandemic and lockdown certainly have not helped us ...unfortunately we all have to find ways to deal with it. It's about bring people together, hopefully that's the kind of message people get from it.

Were there any notable or amusing happenings surrounding the recording/production of the EP? As above, list whatever might be of relevance.

I'm not to sure about amusing but when it was originally recorded at home as demo, the song was 7 mins long with a massive prog outro....that changed but I would love to incorporate that into the live shows next year.

Please provide a one or two-line personal quote that can be attributed to a band member, about either the band themselves or the release. Obviously the more eye-catching this is the better.

The track really captures the spirit of the blues and the times we are living in. I want people to remember, regardless of the situation we can always find help or speak to someone
