An Interview with 'Maia'
Who are the band members and what do they play?
I became an independent artist at the beginning of 2021 and I changed my sound to suit my alternative, bedroom pop and RnB dream sound.
How and where did you get together?
I was able to start writing at the age of 15. When I moved to Vancouver, I really wanted to be in a position of freely creating. After working with all kinds of people, I am with a team that explores my creative interests fully.
What are the band's main influences?
All up and coming artists influence my sound and people with different energy who create for the sole purpose of making a distinct sound.
Have you played any notable gigs, festivals or other events? Likewise radio or TV appearances?
I have played many local shows here in Vancouver.
Are there any other interesting or amusing happenings – no matter how small – that the band have been involved with that would be of interest to those who like your music?
Do you have any favourable quotes from previous reviews of the band that you'd be happy to share?
Where was the single/EP/album recorded and who was involved in its production?
The single was recorded in my producer's house. I basically live there
Is there a particular ethos behind the single/EP/album or any particular music styles or events that inspired it?
Yes! There is. an atmospheric quality to my music in how I want to be transformative and aspirational.
Can you briefly describe what the song/each song is about? If you are releasing an album then either describe the thinking behind the project or choose a couple of lead tracks to focus on.
The song is about one's relationship with the self. Where you embody all that you are, even the changes you go through as a person. So it's almost like you're mourning an old self and embrace the unknown of who you've become.
Were there any notable or amusing happenings surrounding the recording/production of the EP? As above, list whatever might be of relevance.
Yes, I wrote the song with a new producer and he basically found out the intricate secrets in my mind before he even knew me as a friend.
Please provide a one or two-line personal quote that can be attributed to a band member, about either the band themselves or the release. Obviously the more eye-catching this is the better.
"I believe my music is distinct not different. The atmospheric vibe of the song and submitting to the theme of it is necessary to embrace the full potential of my work" - Maia
