An Interview with 'Rabbit'
Who are the band members and what do they play?
Rabbit sings and plays guitar and ukulele
How and where did you get together?
There is no band as of yet, just Rabbit and a variety of very skilled and lovely studio musicians.
What are the band's main influences?
Bob Dylan, Karen Dalton, Canned Heat, Grateful Dead, Laura Nyro, Fred Neil, Odetta, and many, many more.
Have you played any notable gigs, festivals or other events? Likewise radio or TV appearances?
Are there any other interesting or amusing happenings – no matter how small – that the band have been involved with that would be of interest to those who like your music?
Not at the moment.
Do you have any favourable quotes from previous reviews of the band that you'd be happy to share?
Where was the single/EP/album recorded and who was involved in its production?
A combination of Barefoot recording studio in Los Angeles, and Rabbit's home studio.
Is there a particular ethos behind the single/EP/album or any particular music styles or events that inspired it?
This particular song has so much emotion behind it, that's really what drove the song to where it is.
Can you briefly describe what the song/each song is about? If you are releasing an album then either describe the thinking behind the project or choose a couple of lead tracks to focus on.
"Mama" is a song Rabbit wrote about the many shades and scars that can come with motherhood, most of which are usually not visible to the naked eye. This song touches on the pain and joy that comes with being a mother, having a mother, and/or not choosing to be a mother. As a mother herself, she wrote this song to acknowledge those who may not feel as seen and to express that we do not all have to fit into any cookie cutter idea of motherhood.
Were there any notable or amusing happenings surrounding the recording/production of the EP? As above, list whatever might be of relevance.
This is the first song Rabbit ever wrote on the ukulele, she only picked up this instrument in the past year.
Please provide a one or two-line personal quote that can be attributed to a band member, about either the band themselves or the release. Obviously the more eye-catching this is the better.
Singing and playing is what gets me through all the hubbub that makes up this messy living.
