Anna & the Sea – Will you let me wear your shirt tonight

The longing for closeness and the desire to linger in a transient moment echoes in the dreamy and melancholy pop single Will you let me wear your shirt tonight by Anna & the Sea.

The production is relatively stripped back, featuring organic instrumentation with baroque pop and folk rock influences. Cinematic strings and a sitar-like piano opens the song together with Anna’s honest and unpolished voice, before being joined by laid back drums and surf guitars.

Will you let me wear your shirt tonight is the sequel to her debut EPs Söräng and Out of the Blue that was released last year. The single Picking Up a Dream was featured by Spotify in their Indie Highlights playlist and got picked up by Swedish national radio and found fans amongst music blogs and magazines such as HYMN, Mystic Sons, Medium, Popmuzik, Kulturbloggen, Popmani, and Indietronica.

The single is the second version of Will you let me wear your shirt tonight after the first recording met an unfortunate fate:

“Will you let me wear your shirt tonight came to me when I studied music production several years ago. I stayed in the school's studio after a lesson and lost track of the time until a security guard threw me out. The song remained on the school's server and when I returned it was gone; but somehow it got stuck in my head and I have never forgotten it after all these years."

The single is now recorded a second time together with a number of friends and familiar faces from the Swedish music scene such as Patrik Åberg (Avantgardet), drummer Ola Winkler (Lisa Ekdahl, Veronica Maggio), Magnus Josefsson (Blända), Fredrik Hermansson (Ane Brun) on piano and Hanna Ekström (Sthlm Strings) and the mix is by Måns Lundberg (Håkan Hellström, Deportees, Amason).

Anna & the Sea is the solo project of Anna Lindström. The songs are written and produced entirely by herself, she is independent and free from the structures of the music industry and releases her music entirely on her own label Birdtown Records. Originally from the small town Fågelsta, today her base is in Stockholm. Anna is also a music journalist and curates DJ-mixes for the radio show Klingan at the Swedish Radio.

Anna & the Sea is the solo project of Anna Lindström.

Originally from a small town in Sweden, today her base is in Stockholm. Anna is also a music journalist and has a monthly radio show at the Swedish Radio. Secretly, she has been working on her own material, but it never felt like the right place or time to put everything together, until now.

After playing around in a friend’s studio last year, things started to fall into place. Anna returned to the studio with her songs, written on her tired computer, and recorded them together with a number of musicians from the Swedish music scene such as Peter Morén (Peter Bjorn and John) Patrik Åberg (Avantgardet), Ola Winkler (Lisa Ekdahl, Veronica Maggio), Magnus Josefsson (Blända), Fredrik Hermansson (Ane Brun) and Hanna Ekström (Sthlm Strings). The mix is by Måns Lundberg (Håkan Hellström, Deportees, Amason).

The result is dreamy indie pop with influences from baroque pop, folk rock, surf, and highlife. The instrumentation is organic to make a dynamic range for Anna’s honest and unpolished voice, that reminds of Kate Bush, Lana Del Rey, and Joni Mitchell.

Her debut EPs Söräng and Out of the Blue was released last year and the sequel Will you let me wear your shirt tonight is coming out on April 12th.
