After almost a year of more and more incredible single releases, West Yorkshire’s own aggressive pop factory As Sirens Fall have finally announced the release of their hotly anticipated third EP – ‘L’appel Du Vide’. An uber-dynamic, theatrical rollercoaster ride through the journey of grief, ‘L’appel Du Vide’ leaves absolutely no sonic stone unturned. Notes of David Bowie and The Cure marry up with echoes of Queen, My Chemical Romance and The 1975.
Great Music Stories’ Single Of The Year title-holders and Alternative Press’ Ones To Watch, Bailey Roper [Drums], Jason Doveston [Bass], Adam Doveston [Guitar] and Mikey Lord [Vocals] – lead the ultra-devoted, self-ascribed ‘Uncomfortable Club’ who are enamoured with their unique sound.
“’L’appel Du Vide’ started out as a project where we wanted to explore the five stages of grief,” says As Sirens Fall vocalist Mikey Lord, “Five tracks, five stages. As with everything, the lines soon blurred and a far more complicated journey of transition and all the ugly things around it began. It’s about being young, heartbroken and lost. Losing who you are and slowly finding it again. I saw ‘L’appel Du Vide’ written down somewhere and I thought it was beautiful. Despite a very rocky GCSE-French qualification, I had no idea what it meant, I just loved the words. I looked it up and had to steal it. I couldn’t think of a better bow to tie all these songs up with than ‘the call of the void’. The temptation of self-destruction rings out consistently after a loss; it’s like tinnitus. That tinnitus plays its part in all of these songs. And they’re all dripping with the most wonderful ridiculousness.”
L’appel Du Vide is available to pre-order now from www.assirensfall.co.uk, and will be released for streaming/purchasing across all major music platforms on the 18th of September.
The EP was produced and mixed by Neil Kennedy at The Ranch Production House (Creeper, Milk Teeth, Boston Manor), and mastered by Grant Berry (You Me At Six, All Time Low, The Maine) – except track 1, which was produced, mixed and mastered by Romesh Dodangoda at Longwave Studios (Bring Me The Horizon, Bullet For My Valentine, Funeral For A Friend) and track 5, which was produced by Mikey Lord.
