Brand new music video from Joe Hermes - "Otherside" (feat. Mike Farris)
Joe Hermes is a Bloomington, Illinois-based singer/songwriter with a deeply emotive style that takes in rock, outlaw country, and the troubadour tradition. Joe is a strong-willed Old Soul with little regard for following the rules and fearlessly takes on difficult topics including spirituality, addiction, and loss.
His debut release, Souls With Stones EP, comes out September 6th, 2019 and was recorded in Nashville with producer Allan Barclay.
The record features guest appearances by many top aces, including guitar icon Brent Mason, Buddy Hyatt (former Toto Keyboardist), and standout vocalist Mike Farris, and is expected to bring Joe and his songs to a much larger audience. Difficult life circumstances kept him in and out of playing music most of his life but his talent and desire were always there.
These days, he’s back in it to win it and has evolved into an emerging recording artist with the kind of personal authenticity that only comes from living. He also performs solo and with his band Sundown Renegade throughout the Midwest region. Now, Joe makes music for his own reasons. “I wouldn't know how else to keep sane,” he says, “It is my outlet and medium of choice to help communicate not only to myself but to others.”
Influenced by a wide range of artists from Johnny Cash to Metallica, he sets no limits on himself and easily maintains his own original space.
As a singer, his low-toned voice has been compared to Eddie Vedder, Creed, and Crash Test Dummies but, taken as a complete artist, Joe Hermes is his own man in every way, a modern performer who remains connected to the emotional Truth and Humanity of American music and makes those things feel more relevant than ever before. Americana fans who are looking for something real need to start listening.
The song "Otherside" was written based on a true life event artist Joe Hermes and his family experienced in 2013. It took 5 years for Joe to have the courage to write this song, from an honest, spiritual and copacetic standpoint, following the sudden loss of his daughter in the 9th month of pregnancy with his wife. The 1st half of the song depicts his inner most thoughts at the time of the sudden loss, whereas the 2nd half of the song is written from his daughters perspective, speaking back to him from beyond the grave, placing hope back into his heart. Grammy winner Mike Farris sings the part of "her" voice in this song. The video features a young girl who would be about the age of Joe's daughter today had she survived. The hope is this song and video will provide some momentary relief, empathy and some spiritual hope to others suffering from sudden loss of loved ones.
