Canadian cult hero BARZIN releases 'Studio 13 Session Live at Revolution Recordings' EP

Whilst working on his forthcoming fifth studio album (scheduled for release in early 2020), Canadian singer / songwriter Barzin was invited to Revolution Recording Studios in Toronto last year to record five live tracks for their ‘Studio 13 Sessions’ series.

The session included live versions of four tracks from Barzin’s most recent album, ‘To Live Alone In That Long Summer’ (2014), as well as a beautifully moving re-imagining of the Songs:Ohia song ‘Blue Factory Flame’.

On ‘Blue Factory Flame’, Barzin says: "Jason Molina was a gifted songwriter. I have a lot of respect for him. When I think of him, I think of someone who wasn’t afraid to go into those places within himself that a lot of us wouldn’t want to spend too much time in. It takes a lot of courage to go rummaging around in our shadows. And that’s what he did. He was a lyrical maverick who continuously came up with lines that twist and turn and capture the complexity and the difficulty of being human. I think this song captures these qualities."

The EP was released on 7th June 2019 worldwide on Monotreme Records.

Toronto singer / songwriter Barzin has released four full-length studio albums. His past work has won acclaim from NPR Music “Song of The Day”, Salon.com, Stereogum, Uncut, Exclaim! and more. Notes To An Absent Lover was selected by Mojo Magazine as their “Americana Album of The Month” and To Live Alone In That Long Summer was featured on Rollingstone.com and had its premiere stream on the NY Times website.

Barzin was also a finalist in the 2009 International Songwriting Competition in the Americana category for his song ‘When It Falls Apart', and a semi-finalist in the folk/songwriter category for the song 'Stayed Too Long In This Place'.

His music has been used in various film and television productions, including the end credits of HBO’s ‘Vice Principals’.

Barzin has also pursued projects outside his own songwriting, including assisting in producing his compatriots Memoryhouse’s album, The Slideshow Effect (Subpop Records). He has also written a book of poems entitled, "Something I Have Not Done Is Following Me."
