Candid roar back with 'Pulling Away'
Candid deal in a brutal emotional honesty funneled through songs as sharp as they are soothing. Searing guitar riffs, irresistible drumbeats and a backbone of honest, unreserved lyrics deliver a commanding live show, not to be missed. After 3 hometown sell-out shows, the Coventry foursome sold 800 tickets, selling out their famous hometown venue, The Empire before its postponement due to Covid-19. As well as this, Candid boast an impressive string of support slots including Scouting For Girls, The Hoosiers and The Pale White; their infectious indie rock has won the hearts of the local music scene with an unchained drive to take their music to the next level.
Pulling Away’ continues in the same vein as their previous releases, with that same infectious indie rock sound, particularly echoing early Catfish and the Bottlemen in this instance. The band looked to extend their sound on this track, focusing on the different synth and electronic elements at their disposal, which is how the song starts. What initially started as a raw home demo, Candid played the song live and then instantly went to the studio soon after to record it whilst it was fresh in their minds.
With the lyrics stemming from the fact that pursuing music as a passion may result in other parts of your life falling by the wayside, the raw and honest meaning behind the song immediately draws you in. The song really comes into its own in the middle eight, with the words ‘You keep pushing and I keep pulling away from you, what else can you do?’ repeating, which builds into a powerful crescendo and guitar solo, with the bands identity being firmly implemented at that point.
This will surely be another fan favourite as soon as the band are able to go back on the road again to continue their rapidly increasing rise. ‘Pulling Away’ really shows a natural progression for the Coventry born 4-piece, and they show no signs of stopping any time soon.
