DIVEBAR YOUTH: CARBON DIOXIDE
Australian artist delivers a track that explores a new rock n roll vibe, lyrically aware of the imminent, intergenerational handover of global responsibility that we’re about to be left.
Vinnie Barbaro cut his teeth in the Australian music scene in previous bands, playing alongside acts including Lime Cordiale and San Cisco. Vinnie launched his solo project, Divebar Youth in 2019. Drawing together early singles including ‘Sneakers’ and ‘Houses’, Vinnie used recording gear in a lounge room with friends. The songs exude dark indie sounds and incorporate lo-fi drum machines and gritty guitar licks.
The release of his first studio recorded single ‘Obsess’ attracted strong interest and positive reviews from the Australian media, rotating on the Triple J lunch show. This success resulted in more opportunities and support slots for artists including Fergus James. As 2020 kicked off, the artist went on to release his single, ‘Carbon Dioxide’.
This track explores a new, rock n roll vibe, fusing the vintage with a rendered modern sound. The film clip attracted attention from popular music magazines including Tone Deaf and Clipped TV while demonstrating a new dynamic in his writing. The distinctive, angular guitar work and sleek vocal melodies mesh old style rock with an avant-garde feel.
