Talented singer/songwriter and performer JJ Rosa has been making serious waves both on and off stage with her unique guitar-driven take on pop mixed with hip hop beats. After amassing a healthy YouTube following with a series of DIY covers and live performances, as well as building loyal fan base live, this one of a kind performer has now dropped her second single ‘Pandora’.
‘Pandora’ showcases her flair for mixing raucous guitar riffs with souring soul-ladened vocal hooks and punchy drum grooves. The radio-ready production courtesy of Troy Miller who also co-wrote the track (his credits include Calvin Harris, Emilie Sande, Rag n Bone Man and JP Cooper). The track represents the side of a relationship which you can’t undo or go back on, an overriding feeling that you’ve put in a box forever. With a positive message as well, JJ explains further:
“Pandora is about the feeling of getting yourself in too deep that it’s just too late to turn back. It’s that feeling when you fall head over heels for someone, but realise there’s no undoing those emotions that you’ve allowed to come to the surface… It’s also about the realisation that you actually quite like a taste of something forbidden so don’t really want to go back anyway… Pandora represents ‘Pandora’s Box’ - that overriding emotion. I want to portray lyrically is that ultimately life’s too short, so if it feels good, go for it and don’t look back!”
Already a Fender affiliated musician, the Manchester born artist has also been collaborating with Yamaha Music, who have modified her own ‘Pacifica’ guitar model, tailored to her own spec to maximise play-ability. She unveiled this at a launch show at Yamaha Music London earlier this month after a live set at the influential BBC Introducing Live event.
On the live circuit JJ has opened for Stevie Wonder and performed at BTS at Hyde Park, US Ambassadors Party in Regents Park, OnBlackheath (opening for Paloma Faith/De La Soul), The Great Escape, Glastonbury, Isle of Wight and Festival No.6. She’s also performed in New York, around Europe, and played at Fender’s 60th Stratocaster Anniversary of whom she is a worthy ambassador, including participating in many up and coming Fender guitar campaigns.
