Kscope to release 'Recurring Dreams' to coincide with Tangerine Dream
Album to feature newly reworked selected classics by the 2020 lineup
To accompany the Tangerine Dream: Zeitraffer Exhibition at London’s Barbican, which opens on 16th January, Kscope will be releasing on CD &LP Recurring Dreams, a collection of newly reworked Tangerine Dream classics.
Founded in 1967 by Edgar Froese in West Berlin, Tangerine Dream, were early pioneers of electronic music, who, with albums like Phaedra and Rubycon, laid the foundation for new styles such as Ambient and Trance, are now being celebrated by a free exhibition at London’s Barbican Music Library.
The exhibition, Tangerine Dream: Zeitraffer, which opened on 16th January and runs till 2nd May, has been curated by Bianca Froese-Acquaye, Felix Moser and Melanie Reinisch and will present photographs, previously unpublished articles, video clips, and original synthesizers, to take visitors on an immersive journey that tells the band’s extraordinary story whilst revealing London's key role in the international breakthrough of Tangerine Dream during the 1970s.
A very limited number of tickets are available for a private view on 24th January which will feature a reading from Edgar Froese’s autobiography, Tangerine Dream - Force Majeure, by his widow, Bianca Froese-Acquaye, and a screening of the documentary Revolution Of Sound: Tangerine Dream, which includes a talk with director Margarete Kreuzer.
With Recurring Dreams, the new generation of Tangerine Dream pay homage to the band's timeless beginnings with captivating and emotional renditions of selected classics, such as "Phaedra", "Stratosfear", "Tangram" and "Yellowstone Park". These new recordings are not just re-recorded covers but heartfelt and individual interpretations, featuring all generations of synths and sequencers, added layers and new arrangements, applying Froese's new quantum dream to these highly influential tracks. Recurring Dreams also includes the new version of "Claymore Mine Stalking" that was used in 2018’s black metal film Lords of Chaos.

Tangerine Dream have been a fundamental influence on electronic music, providing the groundwork for multiple electronic music genres including ambient and electronica, inspiring musicians and other art forms, from The Future Sound of London to Porcupine Tree, the widely popular TV show Stranger Things (for which their music also featured in) to seminal video game Grand Theft Auto V (for which they helped to write the soundtrack). The group have also received seven Grammy nominations, written over 100 studio albums. Today’s line up began working on 'The Quantum Years', with Froese before he passed away in 2015 and Thorsten Quaeschning, Ulrich Schnauss and Hoshiko Yamane are still working together to realize Edgar's visions and expectations of a conceptual body of work that attempts to translate quantum philosophy into music, out of which their 2017 Quantum Gate album was born.
