LAURIE WRIGHT AIMS FOR CHRISTMAS NO 1 WITH CHARITY CHRISTMAS SINGLE 'COLD TURKEY ON CHRISTMAS DAY'
Rising star Laurie Wright aims for Christmas No 1 with a charity Christmas song about his experiences of overcoming addiction at Christmas time, with 100% of profits going to Shelter and Young Minds.
Wright states: 'Cold Turkey on Christmas Day' is a lighthearted Christmas song about a very serious subject. I was in rehab last Christmas for addiction to drugs and alcohol. Having lost everything time and again since I was a kid due to my addiction to drugs and alcohol, rehab was the only way out; and it really worked. I was homeless in London on and off for 8 years sofa surfing, busking and at the hardest times begging for crack.'
Now one year sober Laurie wants to give something back, He states: 'This is why I want to raise money for Shelter, to give back in some way for all I’ve taken over the years, and help the plight of the homeless. My mental health was in tatters as a result of this too and is often skirted over in the addiction debate, and so I am also raising money for Young Minds with this single, having battered my young mind with drink and drugs through my teens and twenties.'
Laurie has gained a legion of loyal fans from his prolific busking, particularly in his home of Kingston, South London where he recently attempted 'The World's Longest Busk'. Although he didn't break the record he managed 18 hours in the bitter chill of December. The attempt was picked up by The Mirror and lots of local press.
Wright's fans also include The Libertines who recently invited him to support them on a live stream gig from their hotel The Albion Rooms in Margate. He will also be touring the country busking to promote the release.
