lincolnhotchen Releases Debut EP
lincolnhotchen is the moniker of Canadian multi-instrumentalist and producer Lincoln Woo. Primarily known for his work as bassist in JUNO-Award winning indie rock act Said The Whale, this is Lincoln’s debut solo release. Written, recorded and produced entirely alone during COVID-19 isolation in his basement apartment in Vancouver, BC, never gonna feel right mixes bedroom pop and psychedelic influences with a distinct experimental hip hop sound, in the vein of Brockhampton or Tyler The Creator.
The title track tackles the uncertainties of a new relationship. “It’s the thought process of pulling back and forth in your mind between someone’s red flags and their most wonderful qualities, only to arrive back at the same spot with no real conclusion.” Never gonna feel right is accompanied by the warbly, 69 second, rapidly key-changing thought you would be sleeping, which is meant to serve as a tension release from the romantic woes of the title track but in reality leaves the listener feeling more confused.
This is the first in what will be an ongoing series of “sonically-themed” releases from the genre-hopping producer/artist. Stay tuned for more new music from lincolnhotchen.
