New Music: Josh Kroehn 'Something I've Found' EP
Here I Burn is the next single from Josh Kroehn’s striking EP, Something I’ve Found. A song that captures Josh in a reflective self-critiquing moment, and offers a comprehensive insight into the mastery and expansive vulnerability of the EP.
Josh delivers music that delves into a world where his guitar playing creates textures that carry, conflict and challenge his vocal tones and colours in biographical confessionals. His music is written about life, and one thing that you can be assured of is that the music will always come straight from the heart and be powerfully authentic. And that's all he really cares about. "Something I've found has made me say goodbye to my processed life.” These lyrics from his debut single Processed Life summarise the motivation that drives Josh to pursue his passion to have a career and life as a musician. Having an interest for all things musical from a young age saw his musical curiosity pique when introduced to the guitar at the age of 9.
His debut single Processed Life was released independently in July this year, and was met with immediate success in the Triple J Unearthed charts, peaking at number 7 and earning reviews from Triple J presenters and producers:
‘This one's got this really nice laid back flavour to it. One to sit back to. and then BAM. Josh wakes you and the entire street up with a massive rush of guitar.’ - Claire Mooney, triple j
His guitar playing style as a youngster was initially driven by the energy and raw emotion of heavier music. However, a change in schools in 2011, meeting new friends, as well as personal despair all conspired to push Josh into new musical realms that revealed to him a deep-seated emotional connection to music genres of all types. Combining the diversity of his early influences in addition to those he has found later in life has shaped the type of music that he composes. The virtuosic fingerstyle guitar playing of Ben Howard, John Martyn and Nick Drake, as well as the compositional approaches from Radiohead and Talk Talk greatly influence Josh.
Josh has performed in various venues around Adelaide, South Australia, delivering a live show where the audience is absorbed into his musical compositions and can expect the unexpected. Josh’s original tone and unconventional guitar techniques take centre stage. Processed Life and Here I Burn will form part of the ‘Something I’ve Found’ EP to be released in October this year with a forthcoming launch live show at The Jade. The EP will feature two more previously unreleased original tracks from Josh.
