New release: Marle Thomson - Hearts
Hearts is a striking low-key serenade that showcases Marle Thomson's dazzling voice, crafted at the Amsterdam Conservatory. The coproduction and marvelous guitar playing is by Kofi Anonymous (New Cool Collective, Benny Sings, Giovanca, Wouter Hamel), and his vocals can also be heard in the chorus and the bridge.
Marle Thomson about her new single: "Hearts is an honest conversation between two people in love, who find it not always easy to connect. Sometimes ‘we mess up, we stumble, make apologies ’. A relationship isn’t always perfect, but as long as we are willing to talk and show our vulnerability and fears, there’s always a way to love. And as we grow closer, we learn to embrace our imperfections and differences.
Hearts originated while I was staying in London for a short tour, during a writing session with Danny Fisher and Dave Austin (known for his collaborations with George Michael). Once back in Amsterdam I finished the song and wrote the lyrics. Then I produced it with Kofi Anonymous who happened to live just around the corner, and with whom I wanted to collaborate for a while now because of his soulful style and approach. We built the song in a few sessions, layer by layer with all sorts of sounds and parts, to emphasise its character."
With her warm and colorful voice and guitar sound, Marle Thomson brings soulful songs about longing, vulnerability and having the courage to open yourself up. Soulful Space Pop, as Thomson calls it herself.
Marle already made fame in The Netherlands with prominent performances and a well-received 8 track debut EP. She played live on Dutch national radio, prime time Dutch national television, performed at various festivals and stages such as Amsterdam Fashion Week, internationally acclaimed festival Eurosonic-Noorderslag and also as opening act for British singer Heather Peace and Australian singer Mark Wilkinson. In 2018 Marle went on her first ever UK tour. Hearts is the penultimate single of the upcoming new EP.
‘Thomson demonstrates that rare type of dedication to authenticity, focusing inwards to find the right balance of sound and spirit and delivering it outwards with passion and care.’ - Music Week (UK)
