Spirits Republic’s New Single “City Lights” Is As Dreamy As It Is Groovy

Alternative Rockers, Spirits Republic, aren’t afraid to show their sensitive side with a very unique take on a breakup song, showcasing their musical finesse with their new single, “City Lights.”

“City Lights” isn't your cliche sappy breakup song. The emotions that lead singer and guitarist, Russell Somer conveys in this song are expressed through musical twists and turns paired with lyrics that paint a vivid picture of a reflective state of mind. The airy, dreamlike verses are cut off abruptly by distorted guitar which propels into an emotive chorus with a catchy hook that will rattle around your head for days with “Oh, these City Lights, burning bright enough to feel the cold grip on my heart.” A relatable phrase that echoes truth, especially now in the world’s current hardships. To elevate the song even further, a full choir drenched in reverb can be heard during the bridge which then leads to a lyrical guitar solo worthy of praise.

Spirits Republic was described in an article written about their last single release, “Decor” as “Three artists painting from a broad palette of musical influence, joined together to create a seamless, flowing work on their sonic canvas.” They are a DIY power trio quickly picking up momentum and with their “City Lights” single, these characteristics absolutely hold true.

Spirits Republic have more content coming out well into the Summer months. Their social media is a combination of song teasers, live performances, hilarious tongue in cheek original content, memes, and more! The band is putting the finishing touches on a music video for their next single titled, “On and Bound.” Although unreleased, they have shared that the video is a Covid-19 inspired play on Nashville Bachelorette culture, with a shocking horror movie twist.
