For the past 2 decades Kasson Crooker (aka Symbion Project) has released an eclectic array of electronic music spanning techno, synthpop, classical, ambient, and IDM. Backscatter goes decidedly darker and more visceral than previous releases with this instrumental 10th studio album.
Featuring Symbion Project's signature dense layers of programming and unexpected song arrangements, this album also highlights Kasson's debut performance of the Japanese koto (a traditional acoustic 13-stringed harp) and moments of Japanese spoken-word poetry by his fiancé Maki Waza. Backscatter encapsulates 10 songs of both extremes of darkness and light with facets of heavy, layered vintage synths and skittery drum programming mixed with hauntingly beautiful elements of koto and delicate sound design. Backscatter will be released on 3/8 via BandCamp (digital & 180g vinyl) and widely via all streaming sites on 3/22. www.symbionproject.com
