THE FEENS Release ‘Sunset’

THE FEENS are set to release their new single ‘Sunset’ on the 11th September via Ditto Music across all digital platforms, with a later impact date of 16th October TBC.

Hailing from the seaside town of Scarborough, THE FEENS are a young four piece Indie Rock N Roll band, featuring dual-lead vocalist Freddie Schmuck (guitar) and Adam Lodge (bass), along with Sam Dowling (lead guitar) and Perrie Bunton (drums). THE FEENS take a millennial approach with their sound that reinvents the darker vibes from the 80's, 90’s cult acts and adding their own vibrancy and energy to the mix. The tracks that the band bring out give a nod to the likes of Interpol, Editors, Elbow, Joy Division, Simple Minds, Talk Talk and many more. What sets them apart from the pack is their cleverly powerful use of simplicity in melody and use of catchlines that will ear worm their way into your minds to their heart’s content.

Following the release of their standout single ‘What Are You Dreaming?’ in 2019, the quartet continue to gain champions and fans alike including notable support and plays from BBC Radio 1’s Huw Stephens and Phil Taggart, as well as repeat local support from BBC Radio York’s Jericho Keys. In addition to this, the track clocked up extra national radio success via John Kennedy on Radio X, and the single spent a fortnight on the station’s evening playlist.

Speaking of the meaning of ‘Sunset’, frontman Freddie Schmuck commented, “‘Sunset’ was written out of struggling to come to terms with something coming to an end and the feelings that come with that. It also highlights that action of putting on a front or brave face when the lyric says, “I’m not alright, but I’m fine”, when navigating through a difficult and uncertain period. The track title is another way of suggesting the end of something, with a Sunset bringing the day to a close.” The band name THE FEENS means to 'desire' or 'crave'. Commenting on the name, Schmuck went on to say, “It's the only name we could agree on, too. Usually when looking for band names, the one you like best is already taken - same with all the good names haha.”

‘Sunset’ is the perfect tune to soundtrack the summer that never was. The single was recorded by SugarHouse productions (Viola Beach, Pale Waves and Larkins) at Catalyst studios in St Helens, and mastered by Robin Schmidt of 24-96 Mastering in Germany.
