The Rayes release a brand new EP on December 11th, 2020
The Rayes — a creative powerhouse sister-duo charged with heavy harmonies and guitars up the wazoo. Jordan and Rebecca Stobbe expand on a classic rock, oldies folk sound with an added pop flair, and a natural melding of harmonies and guitar that beckons a nostalgia for the '60’s and '70’s era of Fleetwood Mac and Zeppelin. The shared genes in the sisters’ voices are unmistakable, interwoven in a perfect sonic crochet...each stitch complementing the other.
The Stobbe sisters have been making music together practically their entire lives, but their serious career pursuits began in their late teens after busking on the streets of the iconic Pike Place Market in their hometown of Seattle, WA. In 2015, fueled with an unbreakable passion for writing and performing original music, they were chosen to be one of twelve semi-finalists in Paul Allen's Museum of Pop Culture's (MoPop) infamous Sound Off! youth competition. This accolade gave them the push they needed to take their career to a professional level.
They went on to create a full band and began performing at almost every small to mid-sized Seattle venue such as Neumos, The Tractor Tavern, Barboza, Conor Byrne, and The Crocodile (opening for Sweet Spirit and Har Mar Superstar), among countless others. Their performances also included playing acclaimed Capitol Hill Block Party in 2017, and two West Coast tours, (playing venues from Bottom Of The Hill in San Francisco to The Hi Hat in Montana, among others along the way). After a prolific couple of years in Seattle and the greater Pacific Northwest, in 2019 they felt the pull toward a larger scene, so they packed up their guitar cases and moved to Brooklyn, New York. Here, they continued their packed performance schedule playing venues such as Pianos, Arlene’s Grocery, Rockwood Music Hall, Berlin Club and others.
The release of their back-to-back singles, There Goes My Baby, and For No One left us hanging in the Spring of 2020, so we will soon be replenished with their new 3-song EP set for release on December 11th, 2020. The new record, titled, Two Legs, harnesses melodies of sunlight that break through their overcast lyrics, telling a tale of contrast between melancholy and hope and connection in a time when we are all yearning for closeness.
The creative wheels in these two never stop turning, evident in another recent creative endeavor where they recorded a music-focused and location-based podcast as they embarked on a road trip across the United States. Entitled Roadie with The Rayes, this project was created with the hope of giving their fans and listeners a connective road-trip/tour experience during this sociallydistant time.
The sisters harvested their creative juices and collected tuneful seeds while on the road for a fulllength album, which they will begin to record for release in 2021.
